Resources Law Group works at the forefront of today’s most pressing marine conservation issues: declining fish populations, dysfunctional ecosystems, and increasing development pressures. Through innovative public-private partnerships and strategic philanthropic programs, our team works with philanthropic foundations, state agencies, coastal businesses, fishing and fish-farming cooperatives, and international certification entities to improve ocean health.
We craft philanthropic strategies to help conserve, restore, and effectively monitor California’s marine waters. We shape and help implement inter-governmental and public, science-based planning efforts and provide legal and policy expertise on fisheries, science, and marine spatial planning issues at state, regional, and federal scales. Our work promotes careful and coordinated governance of marine resources while securing public funding and long-term stewardship for high priority areas.
Our team works directly with conservation, fishing, and business organizations to build coalitions focused on key conservation goals, and identifies and engages skilled consultants to enhance communications, mapping, and political and organizational effectiveness of coalition-led efforts.
On an international level, RLG fosters discussion and leads development of fisheries criteria that promote sustainable wild-capture fisheries through market-based incentive programs.
